SCHEDULE

August 23 & 24, September 6 &

7, Sept 13 & 14, Sept 20 & 21, Sept 27

& 28 and October 4 & 5.

Entry fees: $ 375.00 per team or $60.00 per open roster player. A 14 player roster team limit.

An additional check for $100.00 is required as a forfeit fee. Please enclose a self addressed/ stamped envelope. The check will not be cashed unless a team is a no show for a scheduled game. The forfeit deposit will be mailed back to you in the supplied envelope the day after the last league game ends.

Teams and partial teams MUST include a completed roster. Managers must also have birth certificates on hand at games in case someone wants to check the age of a player! Coaches will need to supply 1 game ball and backups per game.

Note: Individual player registrations are taken on a "space available" basis. If we get enough open roster players for a team and someone volunteers to coach, those players will be accepted as a team. Otherwise, they will be placed on teams needing players. We make every effort to find a place for these kids to play but in the event we cannot get them placed, refunds will be given. Do you know someone interested in coaching an open roster team?

All entries must be postmarked and paid by August 16, 2008. The schedule will then be determined and placed on the Tealtown web page for disbursement.

As many of you may or may not know Eric Johnston the father of Eric (Tealtown Redhawks) and Aaron (Tealtown Strykers) passed away earlier this month.  A benefit hosted by the Tealtown Panthers senior team is planned for August 9th at Pep Boys in Eastgate. There will be a car wash where you can get your car washed and make donations.  The car wash will run from 10:00 to 3:00.  Please pass the word along to your families and friends so that this will be a successful benefit that will help the Johnston family in this very sad and trying time. Any questions can be directed to Conni Ayers (520-6664) or Faye Obermeyer at (383-1178).

Tealtown Sports News

Parents and Sports

Parents’ voices, coming from the stands, have a major impact on the players’ concentration on the game.

Kids are raised to listen to everything their parents say. The same goes for their coach. A player will hear anything one of those three distinct voices says. Even if the words are not directed to them, they will listen. When a player hears one of those voices, she CANNOT ignore it. It will create a distraction and break their concentration just when they need it the most. They simply cannot tune out those voices particularly at a younger age.

As our season neared the end, my daughter talked to her mom about how much she loved the game and always tried hard but her dad was always yelling at her and she wasn’t sure she wanted to play anymore. My first reaction was one of dismay and disbelief. I had always taken a great deal of pride at not being a “yelling” coach and could not understand why she felt that way. After we talked about the responsibility of being a coach and what we need to do, it suddenly occurred to my wife what was going on. Whenever she heard my voice, regardless to whom I was talking, my daughter thought I was only talking to her.

BACKGROUND CHECK POLICY
Tealtown Ballpark is appreciative of the contributions volunteers bring to our park and welcome their participation.  The board believes volunteers provide a vital resource to our community and we thank you for your efforts. However, to promote a safe environment for our children, we have determined we will follow the parameters of the Ohio Revised Code on criminal background checks for volunteers, Managers/Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches.

In line with local school district and other sports procedures, we are requiring every Manager/Head Coach and Assistant Coach to provide the park with proof of a background check.

Many of you have already provided this proof either through the volunteer program at your school or through other sport leagues.  In this case, you simply have to request a copy of the BCI form.  A copy of this form is suitable for our records. Read More....
