Effective this 9th day of
January 1997, The Board of Directors of
The Mt. Carmel - Glen Este Boosters officially adopts this
"Lightning Policy" to act as its official notice of conduct during
inclement weather while on Tealtown Ball Park property. It is the
intention of this policy to "suspend play" and vacate players,
coaches and spectators from the playing fields when either
lightning is visible or poses a threat to safety. "Suspended Play"
means
an
interruption of play and not a cancellation of the game or activity.
This policy will be in effect during any official game, practice game,
practice or at any gathering or activity at Tealtown Ball Park. All
teams including Knothole, A.A.B.C., Softball, and Instructional or
any league using the fields must comply with this policy.
Any board member, manager, coach, or booster member who sees
lightning, shall immediately notify the "Umpire" who shall
immediately "suspend" play. In addition, any board member of the
Mt. Carmel - Glen Este Boosters may cause the suspension of play
and adherence to this policy by making an appropriate
announcement or the Public Address System. The Umpire may
also suspend or terminate play at anytime if they feel the fields are
not playable or weather conditions are unacceptable.
Once notification is given, play must be suspended
immediately. All players, coaches, and spectators shall leave the
playing field and take shelter. No player or coach shall remain in
the dugout or on the playing field. Play may be resumed only
after the lightning has passed and is no longer a threat and an
official announcement has been made to "play ball" by a Board
Member or designated official.
In the event of no Board Member, designated official or Umpire in
Chief is available, such as at a practice, the manager or team
representative in charge shall be responsible for abiding by and
enforcing this lightning policy.
A copy of this policy will be distributed to each team manager and it
will be the manager's responsibility to communicate this policy to
team coaches, parents and players.
Any manager, coach, or umpire who fails to comply with this policy
will be subject to disciplinary action as determined by the Board of
Directors.
